Galapagos Tortoise
The tortoise for which the islands are named. They are herbivores and spend much of each day sleeping. They are native to 7 of the islands. On the islands that have green highlands in which to forage, they have rounded shells like these, but on the more arid islands, they are "saddle backed" with long necks to be able to reach higher for food.. Galapagos can weigh up to about 900lbs and one individual was documented to have lived 170 years.
